Capturing the passion
It’s hard to describe the unique relationships between horse and rider. Let me tell your story.
EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHY
Many of my equine shoots come about because the horse or pony is being moved on to its new home and it quite suddenly becomes imperative to have some photos taken to honour the relationship between horse and owner before their new journey begins.
Capturing this relationship, this little slice of family history, is incredibly precious.
It’s difficult to explain that unique connection between you and your horse. Everything you’ve shared together, everything you’ve taught one another. The passion and commitment that comes with horse ownership is both magical and precious. It’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words.
This relationship often starts, of course, during childhood. Children grow up so quickly, and the ponies they care for really define their childhood. Horse ownership is married to a spectrum of life skills: empathy, compassion, responsibility, endurance and, of course, passion. It helps our children become the kind, practical adults we want them to be. From that first Pony Club pony to the very last horse they have before flying the nest for university, these animals teach our children at least as much as our children teach them.
Our horses really form the backbone of our daily lives. Without them, it really would be difficult to imagine what we’d fill our days with. When working with horse and owner, I find it crucial to have a getting-to-know-you chat ahead of our session so that I can really understand what your life with your horse is truly like. I work in tandem with that passion, that connection and that commitment to your horse during every second of our session.
HOW IT WORKS
Pre Shoot
We’ll have a telephone consultation just to get to know one another, then I’ll send out info sheets that have everything you need to know ahead of the shoot.
On the day
We’ll meet early in the day (the light tends to be better) and have a little recce of the area (just in case you’re not shooting with us on the farm). Then we’ll have a chat about wardrobe.
After the Session
Two weeks later, your photos will be ready and I’ll invite you for a viewing session in my studio to choose your artwork.
FAQ
So what if it rains?
Scottish weather. There’s no predicting it, so I tend not to try. But all will be well: if we get light rain or the odd shower, I say we push on and get out there. A little rain never hurt anyone. A lot of rain, however, is a different story. If the weather's looking horrible we can always reschedule. No stress.
How much is a session?
It depends on how locations and the type of shoots.
Prices start from £75
Products start from £45

When will my photos be ready?
About 2 weeks after the session. In busy periods, you might have to give me a little longer but always be transparent about my lead times.
How do we view our photographs?
You’re welcome in my lovely home studio for a cuppa and a viewing session. Of course, post-Covid, lots of clients prefer a Zoom viewing session which can be arranged easily.
Are you insured?
Oh yes. I have full public liability and professional indemnity insurance.
Where will my photoshoot take place?
Here on the farm. Your yard (or another location if you wish). I am based in Fife and cover Scotland however travel over 50 mins may incur a travel fee.
Can I have my partner/family/dogs in the photos?
As long as you tell me in advance, I don’t see why not.
How should I prepare my horse for our session?
It’s all on the info sheet I send out before the session.
What happens if my horse won't stand still or misbehaves?
Don't you worry. All my equine shoots are led by your horse. Their comfort always comes first and we have plenty of time.
What if I own more than one horse?
No problem! We just need to allocate a bit more time on the day, so let me know.
Can my friends and family be there to help?
An extra pair of hands during a session is always handy, though I discourage too many observers as it can make animals nervous.
What should I wear?
Once you’ve confirmed your booking, I’ll send out an info sheet with lots of chat about wardrobe, but in a nutshell: 2-3 outfit changes that reflect your personality and are comfortable. Casual or smart, whatever you feel good in.
Love the sound of all this. When should I book?
At least six weeks in advance. If you’d like a weekend shoot or one that falls during the school holidays, I do recommend booking 8 weeks in advance as these slots book up super quick.
